Iron Reagan: Worse than dead

16/05/13  ||  Habakuk

Four guys, two from Municipal Waste, 25 minutes, 19 seconds and one dead president. No, dear record store clerk, I am not looking for Iron Dragon, thank you very much. Due to a recommendation our former staff thrasher revenant, I came across this little nasty slice of 80s hardcore / thrash, which came out in 2013.

One thing you cannot blame Municipal Waste for is that they fail at paying homage – and with guitars and vocals coming over from that band to Iron Reagan, you can be pretty sure that we have something quite similar on our hands here. Positive news: it lacks the stupid party thrash attitude and a lot of redundancy, but keeps the 80s vibe that Municipal Waste pulled off so well not too far back, great half time breaks included – but with a playing time below 30 minutes, you can be sure these guys go for a no frills approach. I definitely hear some Cro-Mags and some D.R.I., and I do hear a good production job. A nice thing to have especially since the whole package doesn’t exactly scream “big money” released by a label I’ve never even heard of, coming with a two page booklet and so forth.

Anyways, they’ve got a big name behind them with the ‘Waste, and it probably helped in getting Tomas Lindberg on board for some great guest vocals on “Snake Chopper”. Yeah, the lyrics still aren’t especially awesome in general, especially when they comment on politics, which comes across as a bit preachy. But hey, I guess you have to try with a name like this.

Thrash lovers, old schoolers and everyone that thought it was a shame that Municipal Waste went to shit so quickly, take heed here. Check them out and join me at a hearty “screw you, metal archives”, which for some weird moderating reason seem not to accept this band. Or simply haven’t heard about them? Madness.
